Jaguar's New i-Type Marks A New Chapter In The History Of Jaguar Racing

Jaguar has unveiled its first all-electric race car, the i-Type Formula-e. The car was announced in full racing livery at the Jaguar Collections Centre in Gaydon, England. Jaguar's history in racing has resurfaced with a futuristic twist. The Formula-e scene has become a respected brother of the Formula-1 racing championship. The i-Type Formula-e is an example of how Formula-e is pushing the boundaries of science, technology, and design and stands as a fully respected sport in its own right. 

Panasonic has since been announced as the supporting title partner to the Jaguar brand. Jaguar are returning to the sport with a bang as they are announced to be partaking in the global FIA Formula-e Championship. Jaguar Land Rover are standing beside their 'race to innovate' philosophy, using this championship as a platform to generate the next generation of electric powers road cars. 

Nick Rogers, Executive Director, Product Engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, underlined the important role Formula E will play in developing next generation electric vehicle technology and the importance of electric vehicles in Jaguar Land Rover’s future product portfolio. Jaguar Land Rover is Britain’s largest research and development investor across any business sector.

Rogers said: “Over the next five years we will see more changes in the automotive world than in the last three decades. The Formula E championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions. We will apply this vital knowledge as part of our real world development. At Jaguar Land Rover we employ 9,000 engineers and the team will draw on these engineers to extract data and push the boundaries of electric technology in a race environment.”

​The i-Type Formula-e made its debut in Hong Kong at the opening race of the third FIA Formula E Season on 9th October 2016, and is set to further it's racing career in the Formula E 2017 Championships. Gerd Mäuser, the Chairman of Panasonic Jaguar Racing, commented on the launch of the i-Type: “Today marks a new chapter in the history of Jaguar Racing. As the first premium car manufacturer in Formula E we are proud to be back in top-level motorsport. The future is changing and we’re part of that change. We can’t wait to begin racing competitively in world famous city locations inspiring a whole new generation of Jaguar Racing fans to join us on this exciting journey.
