FUTURE-TYPE CONCEPT JAGUAR

The Jaguar FUTURE-TYPE is the future vision set for 2040 and beyond with its premium compact on-demand vehicle concept. The fully autonomous FUTURE-TYPE concept is designed for the motability needs of the future, where Jaguar customers will be able to summon the car on-demand. As the main focus of the concept is Jaguars world-first intelligent and connected steering wheel, named Sayer, after the designer of the E-Type. Detachable from the car, Sayer offers exceptional and innovative voice-activated Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, aiding you in almost every aspect of your day. Sayer can summon your car, book a restaurant table, play music and can even know whats in your fridge.

The FUTURE-TYPE and the accompanying smart steering wheel represent Jaguar's on-demand service club, which offers either sole ownership of a Jaguar FUTURE-TYPE or a shared membership with other people in the community. With the latter option, customers will only need to solely own a Sayer steering wheel, not the car.

Whilst in the FUTURE-TYPE, Sayer can keep the driver connected throughout every journey but does offer the choice of turning off additional features to leave only the thrill of the drive to entertain you. Sayer organises your life into different 'orbits' such as your family, work and friends and customers can choose to focus on one orbit or all of them at once, to stay connected with all aspects of life.

Ian Callum, Design Director at Jaguar, said, "FUTURE-TYPE offers an insight into the potential for driving and car ownership in the future. It's part of our vision for how a luxury car brand could continue to be desirable, in a more digital and autonomous age. our FUTURE-TYPE Concept is an advanced research project looking at how we can ensure an on-demand Jaguar will appeal to customers in 2040 and beyond. Whether it's commuting to work, autonomously collecting children from school or enjoying driving yourself on the weekend in the countryside, if there's a choice of on-demand cars driving around city streets, we need to ensure customers desire our 24/7 service over our competitors."

Customers will be able to call on a fully-charged FUTURE-TYPE whenever its needed. Different FUTURE-TYPE's can be made available depending the customers requirements. For instance, if a customer needs to take their child to school, a FUTURE-TYPE with 2+1 social seating would be summoned to allow passengers to chat with one another whilst the car autonomously drives to your destination.

On the roads, the concept car will communicate with other cars, allowing for shorter distances between vehicles and improving the safety of changing lanes and exiting junctions. The co-operative driving technologies also increase road capacity and prevent accidents.

The Design Director at Jaguar, Ian Callum, states, "Today, Jaguar offers customers a dynamic, emotional experience. Whether it’s the exhilarating way they drive, the way they sound, the iconic design or the connection drivers feel with the road, customers tell us that their Jaguar makes them feel special. With the FUTURE-TYPE we’ve been investigating how we can keep this emotional connection in a future world where people may choose not to own a car, or when a Jaguar is an autonomous, on-demand vehicle, In a future age of on-demand services and car sharing, our research shows there will still be a place for luxury and premium experiences – and enjoying the drive. People will still want to travel in style and comfort, while the growth of car sharing actually increases the opportunity for people to experience what a Jaguar has to offer, even if they chose not to own one".
