The Frankfurt Motor Show provided the perfect platform for Land Rover to announce the newest addition to the Discovery range, the new Discovery SVX. Positioned as the pinnacle of the Discovery line-up, the new vehicle is the first Land Rover to bear the 'SVX' moniker and the ultimate for all-terrain driving.
Jeremy Hicks, the Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, said: "The new Discovery SVX embodies the ultimate in adventure and capability of the Discovery family. Customers love the Discovery's versatility and capability and we are delighted to offer UK customers even more choice with the addition of the Si4 300hp engine."
Land Rover's all-terrain capability is already legendary, and the Discovery SVX builds on this further, along with the same outstanding design and engineering solidity that is at the core of every model created by Land Rover. The Discovery SVX is offered exclusively with the supremely powerful 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol powertrain, which is capable of delivering 525PS and 625Nm of torque. A number of modifications have taken place on the SVX's suspension, meaning drivers can be full of confidence which taking on even the toughest of terrain.
The Discovery SVX will be assembled by hand by expert craftsmen at the Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Technical Centre when production begins in 2018. The SVX adds to the SVO portfolio, alongside the SVR and SVAutobiography monikers which signify superior on-road performance and indulgent levels of luxury respectively. The SVX title represents the ultimate in all-terrain capabilities.
John Edwards, the Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, commented: "SVO designers and engineers are embedded within the Land Rover team and have unleashed their own passion for adventure to create another truly desirable and versatile vehicle in the Land Rover line-up."
As a first for the Discovery model, the SVX has a Hydraulic Active Roll Control (H-ARC) system. The system gives the vehicle improved body control, along with increased wheel articulation, which combined together enhances the off-road traction whilst also reducing body roll for a smoother on-road journey. The SVX is fitted with 815mm diametere 275/55 R20 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tyres on forged aluminum alloy wheels and a four-corner air suspension system. The tyres are designed to improve performance and grip on muddy ground thanks to the larger design with a more defined tread pattern.
The Discovery SVX has a wealth of dynamic driver assistance systems including Hill Descent Control, Adaptive Dynamics, Terrain Response 2, Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), variable ratio Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) and All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC).
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, says: "The combination of design excellence and engineering integrity inherent in every Land Rover is the foundation of everything we do. The Dsicovery SVX reinforces Land Rover's unrivalled reputation for building vehicles with true all-terrain capability for customers who desire the ultimate in off-road performance."
