Subaru 2.5 Litre Turbo `Boxer' Engine Wins Major Award

Subaru's iconic 2.5 litre turbocharged `boxer' engine has won an award at the International Engine Of The Year Award 2008.

Fitted to the brand-new Impreza 2.5 WRX and WRX STI, the engine was voted the best in the 2.0 to 2.5 litre class.

This is the second time Subaru's 2.5 litre horizontally-opposed turbo-petrol engine has topped its category, beating rival engines from BMW, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Mazda, Ford, Lancia and Peugeot/Citroen.

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday 7 May, at the Engine Expo 2008 held in Stuttgart, Germany.

A panel of 65 renowned motoring and technical journalists from 32 countries served as judges in the competition organised by UKIP Media and Events, Britain's largest group of auto-technology magazines which includes Engine Technology International.

The judges evaluated the vehicle's performance, drivability, fuel economy and refinement.

Revisions for the totally new Impreza WRX STI now produces 300 PS and 300 lb ft in standard form - increase of 19 PS and 11 lb ft respectively - attracting widespread praise for unbeatable performance for the price.

Extensive New Accessory Range For Totally New Forester

Only weeks after going on sale, Subaru is offering an exciting and extensive accessory range for its totally new Forester.

And with research showing SUV owners enjoy personalising their new car, there should soon be a variety of distinctive Foresters on UK roads.

Typical style-orientated accessories include a front under guard for £350, rear under guard for £275 and roof spoiler at £240.01.

Other items range from fog lamp mouldings for £35 to door mouldings at £195. Popular on the previous model was the stainless steel bumper protector at £85 and foldable cargo tray at £60 (all prices include VAT but exclude painting and fitting where appropriate). Other items include towbars and carpet mats and - like all Subaru-approved-accessories - carry a full and comprehensive three-year warranty.

Based on the platform of the new Impreza and starting from £17,995 on-the-road, the new Forester features more passenger and luggage space plus a smoother ride and even more agile handling thanks to a new multi-link double-wishbone rear suspension.

Now closer in size to its Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 competitors, the new Forester is 75mm longer, 45mm wider and gains 110mm in height.

Rear legroom grows by 95mm, the driver's eye-line is 30mm higher, while the load space is now 450 litres with the rear seat up - 63 litres more than the previous model.

New Forester Wins Top Safety Award

Subaru's much praised new Forester has won a top safety award in the United States, scoring the highest marks for side, rear and offset frontal impact-protection.

The US-market Forester has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's `2008 Top Safety Pick' award

To win, the vehicle must offer superior overall crash protection among the vehicles in its class, not only registering the highest marks in front, side and rear tests but be equipped with electronic stability control.

Lawrence Good, Managing Director of Subaru (UK) Limited said "This is excellent news and perfectly timed just as the UK version of the new Forester is about to go on sale. The tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are respected worldwide and it is worth noting that both the US and UK Foresters are Japanese-built and therefore share the same basic potential life-saving features."
