We’ve answered some of the most common questions about Motability below. If you can’t find the question you’d like to ask, please feel free to get in touch.

Am I eligible to join the Motability Scheme?

To join the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of one of the following allowances:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

You will need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply.

My allowance is changing to PIP, can I still get a vehicle?

PIP is the new allowance which is incrementally replacing the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people. Like DLA, PIP has two components: a daily living component and a mobility component. Each component has two rates of payment: a ‘standard rate’ and an ‘enhanced rate’ which will be the same amount as the DLA. You can lease a Motability Scheme car, scooter or powered wheelchair by using the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP, similar to the Higher Rate Mobility Component of DLA.

The Government started to replace DLA with PIP in April 2013. It is expected to be complete by 2019.

If you receive DLA, you will be invited to make a claim for PIP by the DWP at some point between now and 2019. Until that point, you do not need to do anything. However, when you receive the letter, it is important to respond to the invitation within the given timescales.

What is an Advance Payment?

Some larger or high specification Audi cars require an additional upfront payment. This is known as an ‘Advance Payment ‘. The Advance Payment covers the difference between the cost of your car and your allowance paid over the length of the agreement when your allowance alone would not be enough to cover the cost. It is not a deposit and is therefore not refundable.

The high-quality and luxury nature of the Audi range means most vehicles will require some advance payment, but the nimble and dynamic Audi A1 1.0 TFSI Sport Nav 3dr is available with no advance payment.

What happens when prices change?

Our price lists are updated every three months so that we can offer our customers the best deals from each manufacturer. We also offer a ‘Price Guarantee’ meaning the price confirmed at the time of your application is the price you pay even if the price changes before you collect your car.

The dates the new prices are published are:

  • 1 January
  • 1 April
  • 1 July
  • 1 October
    • Please note that if the specification of the car changes after the application, the price may be subject to change.

Do I own the car at the end of the lease?

  • Lease another car through the Motability Scheme – we’ll be happy to show you the new range of cars available
  • You may be able to keep your current car longer by extending your lease
  • Return your car and have your allowance reinstated
