Audi A3 Revamped

Let me introduce you…

The new Audi A3 is packed with infotainment upgrades and a selection of new engines, including a mild-hybrid model and sleek contours.

Mild hybrids (also known as power-assist hybridsbattery-assisted hybrid vehicles or BAHVs) are generally cars with an internal combustion engine equipped with an electric machine (one motor/generator in a parallel hybrid configuration) allowing the engine to be turned off whenever the car is coasting, braking, or stopped, yet restart quickly. Mild hybrids may employ regenerative braking and some level of power assist to the internal combustion engine (ICE), but mild hybrids do not have an electric-only mode of propulsion.

Its curvy sides come with blistered wheel arches (like the Audi RS models) and the slanted pillars and huge hexagonal grille make it look seriously aggressive for a posh hatchback.

High spec cars get LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights along the bumpers and large alloy wheels. Check this out there is also a rear spoiler which we think makes

it look wider (does my butt look big in this)

The interior:

This has been redesigned, too. With loads of horizontal surfaces to make the cabin feel more spacious and the air vents with wraparound trim looks and feels very grown up.

The centre console is simple without too many buttons & with a small gear selector switch.

What about the infotainment?

A range of Audi Connect functions are bundled in the free my Audi app, which connects your smartphone. The A3 gets the latest MMI system, there is a 10.3” display with touchscreen

functionality and the rotary controller on the centre console has been binned. Never fear though the climate controls are helpfully grouped together for ease of use.

Practicality and the all-important Boot space:

380 litres of boot space, plus flip back the back seats down and you should find 1,200 litres of space!

The back seats are mounted lower than the old model, so rear-seat headroom should be much improved.

Now to the Driving:

The New A3 you could have fitted with adaptive suspension. This lowers the body by 10mm and comes with 3 settings: auto, comfort and dynamic. Sports suspension is another 15mm lower.

Engines producing more than 150hp get independent rear suspension which helps it feel more agile. You can only get the Audi A3 with front wheel drive, but four-wheel drive quattro

equipped should follow.

Enthusiasm is the steam that drives the engine:

The A3 will come with 3 engines initially.

150hp 1.5L petrol

115hp or 150hp 2.0L Diesel

Later you will have 110hp 1.0L three-cylinder petrol and a faster S3 model with a 2.0L four-cylinder petrol engine.

You’ll also be able to buy a plug-in hybrid model with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and an electric motor that together produce 245hp. These will be able to drive for around 40 miles using just

electric power. Until then though, your choice of hybrid is limited to the mild-hybrid version of the 1.5-litre petrol engine. This can switch off the engine and coast along using electric power for up to 40 seconds at a time to help you save fuel.
