  • The world's first luxurious hybrid
  • Utilises next-generation technology to create the ultimate driving experience
  • Bentley's first step towards producing electric vehicles
  • A new V6 petrol engine is accompanied by an advanced electric motor
  • Battery reaches maximum charge within 2.5 hours

Bentley have announced details of the world's first luxury hybrid, The Bentayga Hybrid, representing the brand making progress towards producing electric-vehicles. The Bentayga Hybrid will flawlessly combine the tranquility of inaudible motoring, with the sumptuous comfort and outstanding performance Bentley is renowned for.

The Bentayga Hybrid will be a plug-in hybrid which will use an advanced electric motor with a next-generation turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. Together, these two systems will give the world its first luxury hybrid SUV with Co2 emissions of only 75g/km, Bentley's most efficient model ever. Howbeit, these innovations do not infringe on the refinement and performance that is expected from a vehicle that bears the Bentley insignia.

Bentley Motor Chairman and CEO commented: “The Bentayga Hybrid is our first step on the road to electrification, combining traditional Bentley values with the very latest technologies. It gives customers the best of both worlds – engaging, effortless performance on the open road and silent, emission-free driving in the city, which will become increasingly important with the ever-changing regulations around the world. Following Bentley tradition, the Bentayga Hybrid pioneers a new automotive sector – the luxury hybrid – and sets Bentley on the path towards a sustainable electrified future."

Instead of an Automatic Start-Stop switch, the Bentayga Hybrid will use a mechanism to control the EV Drive, Hybrid and Hold modes, allowing the driver to control battery energy consumption. Another significant change will be seen on the infotainment screen. As new forms of information will need to be displayed to the driver, the infotainment and Driver Information Panel screens will be altered to show the E Motion information, allowing the driver to be aware of the car's current performance and energy consumption. The staple tachometer has been replaced with a dial displaying when the car is in pure EV mode, or when the speed of the combustion engine when it is in operation. The coolant temperature gauge has also been replaced with a battery status dial.

When travelling, the Bentayga Hybrid will analyse your route conditions through satellite navigation, to determine the optimal use of the car's electrical motor and engine. When you enter a destination into the satellite navigation system, it will automatically activate the most efficient mode depending on what stage of your journey you're currently at. This allows the battery to conserve power for when it is required, allowing for maximum efficiency.

MyBentley3 connected car services will also get a variety of new features to enhance the owner's hybrid experience. Features such as My Battery Charge, My Cabin Comfort and My Car Status will be accessible via your smartphone, and it will allow you to control select systems in the car remotely, and see various information about the car's hybrid system.

To further enhance the hybrid experience, Bentley have ensured that charging the hybrid system is just as simple as refuelling a normal car. You will be able to control the charging with the use of your smartphone or in-person.

The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid will become available to order in late 2018.
