Set to be one of the most important McLaren launches in history, the forthcoming all-new High-Performance Hybrid supercar is due to be in showrooms for mid 2021. Named Artura, the next generation V6 hybrid is all-new in multiple aspects.
Not only does the hybrid supercar promise more exhilarating performance, improved technology and sophistication, but the Artura will also be a world first. The High-Performance Hybrid (HPH) powertrain is the first of its kind in the segment, crafted with remarkable McLaren expertise which was first showcased in the pioneering McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar in 2012. Artura starts at £185,500 and no other manufacturer offers a hybrid supercar at this price point.
An All-New Powertrain
Marking the debut of a new twin turbocharged V6 petrol engine paired with an electric motor, the Artura promises razor-sharp performance by eliminating gaps in throttle response and turbo lag through the use of it's new electric motor. Artura has a combined power output of 680PS and 720NM torque with 585PS coming from the 3.0 litre V6, while the e-motor produces 95PS for improved torque at low revs and an option to drive in full electric mode with zero-emissions for up to 19 miles.
Everything about the Artura is all-new, including the 8-speed Dual Clutch transmission and entire carbon fibre tub which is newly built from the ground-up. This is also the first time we will see an e-diff fitted to a McLaren which electronically distributes torque to the correct wheels and is said to be more effective than traditional limited-slip differentials.
Performance
Performance is a big step up from previous McLarens at a similar price point, thanks to the plug-in hybrid setup. 0-62 mph takes just 3.0 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 205 mph. Contributing to an all-round thrilling experience, the entire car has a dry weight of just 1395 kg which means steering precision is second-to-none.
Design
In addition to the decades of expertise forging the new Artura hybrid together, the new powertrain is harnessed beneath a striking new design, making it the essence of the McLaren character. Boasting bold curves and dynamic McLaren signature design, the all-new High-Performance Hybrid supercar defines a new era of McLaren motoring.
