Discovery & Range Rover Sport PHEV Win At TOW Awards 2019

The Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Sport PHEV have won awards at this year’s Tow Awards – Britain’s biggest tow car test programme.

For more than a decade, experts from Practical Caravan, WhatCar? and The Camping and Caravanning Club have been joining forces to find the best tow cars available in Britain. This year, the Discovery has won Best 1,900KG+ Tow Car and the Range Rover Sport PHEV was awarded Best Plug-In Hybrid Tow Car.

Land Rover Discovery – Best 1,900KG+ Tow Car

The Discovery has impressively won the 1,900KG+ class 12 times in the 13 years that the awards have been established. There was tough competition this year but the model still managed to remain victorious thanks to its outstanding ability to tow long distances in all weathers with ease and style.

"At motorway speeds the Discovery is serene, the caravan following obediently behind with little more than the odd twitch if the wind picks up. Overtaking is achieved confidently and quickly, as the rapid 9.2-second 30-60mph time shows. The engine is refined as well as strong, pulling hard without disturbing the peace in the cabin.

Passengers will end each journey as relaxed as the driver. There's lots of space in all three rows, and the Discovery is noticeably better at seating seven than its rivals. The flexibility of the cabin is second to none, with seats that slide, recline and fold. If you are fortunate enough to have the means, you can't buy better."

Range Rover Sport – Best Plug-In Hybrid Tow Car

The Range Rover Sport on the WLTP combined cycle can return an impressive 75.3 – 86.9mpg. Its outstanding economy figures plus unshakable towing abilities make it the perfect choice for many.

"The Range Rover Sport P400e returns exceptional fuel economy and emissions figures for such a heavy and quick car. And it is quick, towing a twin-axle Swift caravan from 30-60mph in 8.6 seconds. That makes it one of the fastest accelerating tow cars in this year's tests.

At motorway speeds, the Range Rover Sport is secure. There's barely a twitch from the caravan in your towing mirrors, even travelling at speeds which would be illegal on the public road."
