New Land Rover Defender Completes Testing In Kenya

In the run up to the highly anticipated New Land Rover Defender reveal, the production moves a step closer after the outstanding model successfully completed its final phase of field testing at the Borana Conservancy in Kenya.

Roaming the flat African plains, pushing through the deeply rutted tracks and descending down steep rocky terrain, the Defender has been truly tested to the full extent of its exceptional ability. The 14,000-hectare reserve is also full of deep muddy riverbanks and dense forests, highlighting the full versatility of the New Land Rover Defender.

With a 15-year partnership between Land Rover and Tusk Trust, the new Defender was tested in a gruelling environment whilst also providing an outstanding vehicle for the wildlife managers in the support of their lion conservation initiatives. Tasked with transporting large and heavy supplies, as well as tracking radio collared lions, the camouflaged Defender prototype offered true diversity and breath-taking ability.

Discover the full capability of the new Defender whilst it tows heavy loads, lunges through muddy rivers and navigates tricky terrain during testing in Kenya.

Already tested in a number of extreme conditions, when the new Defender is set to reach the UK market in 2020, it’s capabilities will be a cut above the rest. Testing in extreme conditions allows the Defender to showcase its true potential and highlight the exceptional driving experience in real-world scenarios.

With a number of configurations already showcased in camouflage, the highly anticipated launch is set to see a number of configurations, including short and long wheelbases. The prototype in Kenya featured iconic design elements from the unmistakable Defender appearance, partnered with clearly modern Land Rover Design.

Land Rover have invested a great deal of time and resources into ensuring the new Defender is an obvious successor of the iconic model, whilst still modernising and providing a clear link to other successful models in the Land Rover line-up.
